About me

I am a proud Yorkshirewoman, born and raised just up the road in Ilkley. I attended local state schools where I learned the values of fairness and honesty—principles that continue to guide me to this day.

My life has been closely intertwined with Shipley constituency since a young age. From long walks on the moors above Baildon, visiting school friends in Burley-in-Wharfedale, my Mum serving as a magistrate in Bingley, and days out in Saltaire. I now live just outside Bingley and enjoy being actively involved in the community.

After graduating from university, I committed my career to protecting our NHS and securing better care and support for older and disabled people and their carers. Over the past twenty years, I have worked nationally and internationally on health and social care, influencing national plans and priorities.

In 2015, I set up and led a national charity on ageing, securing changes to policy on housing, employment support, and pensions. Six years later, my contribution was recognised with the award of an MBE.

Towns and villages across Shipley constituency have experienced the impact of more than a decade of austerity and hollow promises from the Conservatives. Having seen first-hand the growing inequalities, I knew that our local area needed someone to stand up for us in Parliament. And that’s why I decided to stand as the Labour Party candidate at the 2024 General Election.

Since being elected as the Member of Parliament for Shipley, I have been working hard to deliver on your priorities and be a strong voice for our communities in Westminster.
