Shipley MP Anna Dixon yesterday visited two local mosques as part of The Muslim Council of Britain’s Visit My Mosque weekend.

Ms Dixon attended open days at the Masjid Al-Furqaan and Masjid Ayesha mosques in Shipley and Wrose, respectively.

The MP met with Imams and local community members to discuss the importance of interfaith relationships and standing together in the face of Islamophobia, antisemitism and racism.

The open days were open to everyone, and they allowed people to learn about the Muslim faith and what happens at a mosque.

The events were also attended by representatives of West Yorkshire Police.

Anna Dixon commented: “I am proud of the strong interfaith tradition across Bradford District and stand in solidarity with the Muslim community here in Shipley constituency.

“Particularly after the horrendous riots we saw over the summer in other parts of the country, it is good to be able to celebrate the diversity of Shipley constituency.

“Both in Wrose and Shipley, it has been great to see people from all across our local area coming together.

“Today, I have spoken with and learned from many members of the community about their faith and how they are serving their neighbours. It gives me hope that we remain a welcoming and inclusive community, one I am proud to represent in Parliament.

“I want to thank everyone at the Masjid Al-Furqaan and Masjid Ayesha mosques for their generous hospitality and for organising such fantastic events.”
