The MP for Shipley has written to the government about the financial situation of Bradford Council and the need for reform in adult and child social care.
Anna Dixon sent her letter to Chancellor Rachel Reeves and the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government last week, asking them to provide additional support for local authorities that were severely underfunded during 14 years of Conservative rule.
Ms Dixon specifically highlighted the need for reform in how councils like Bradford fund and deliver social care services.
She highlighted the fact that the current cost of Children’s social care alone has risen above the total council tax revenue in Bradford.
The Labour MP also suggested a number of reforms that could help improve the financial stability of local councils.
Anna Dixon suggested the government could ensure local councils are adequately funded to meet core needs, take steps to prevent the repayment of the £220million of extraordinary funding support from becoming unsustainable for Bradford council and Consider caps on the cost of agency social care work and residential work.
